XDM stands for XML Document Management and is an open standard defined by Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). Full specification can be found here. XDM is enabling interoperable Presence implementations (i.e. SIMPLE), and is used to access and manipulate various XML document stored across the network, all with established identity, authorization and appropriate security.

XDM provides the following main capabilities for the Presence applications:

  • Communication with XCAP servers
  • Contact List Management
  • PresenceStateManagement
  • XML Document access and management across multiple domains
