In a conference room there are situations in which the person speaking is not close enough to the microphone. For these cases you will usually place more than a single microphone within your microphone pod. This is done to improve the audio quality of the speaker in the room by using beamforming. The algorithm identifies the position of the person speaking and combines the audio received on all microphones, generating a single audio stream that is focused on the person speaking. That way you get a signal with less noise and reverbration. The end result - the speaker gets a higher SNR .
