A Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) is a conferencing bridge, used to connect video conference participants into conferences.

The MCU connects various endpoints into a multi-party conference, while catering usually both for the audio mixing and video layout and for adjusting the video and audio streams to the participants capabilities.

MCUs consist of a Multipoint Controller (MP), which takes care of the signaling part of the conference, and an optional Multipoint Processor (MP), which is in charge of video and audio processing, as well as packet handling.
